Lorde topped the charts at age 16, and was a millionaire by age 17. That’s a pretty good start to a music career! The New Zealand singer celebrated her 17th birthday on November 7 by finalizing a $2.5 million deal with Songs Music Publishing, according to Billboard. Songs came out on top in a competitive bidding war to land the teen sensation’s publishing rights, beating out labels like Sony and Universal Music Group. The worldwide deal gives Songs her debut EP The Love Club, full-length follow-up Pure Heroine and future recordings, so we can expect to be hearing her stuff on commercials and TV shows very soon.

Songs is the publishing home to major artists like Pharrell, Nelly, The Weeknd and Diplo, and the company’s head of A&R Ron Perry has apparently already introduced Lorde to the latter two musicians (here’s some proof!) to spitball future collaborations.
