Colbie Caillat Returns With “Hold On”: Listen To The Ryan Tedder-Produced Single

If it ain’t broke, Colbie Caillat isn’t looking to take off her Ron Jon beach sandal and hammer it back into place…or is she? When last we heard the Malibu lite-pop queen on the radio, she was having a sizable, Gold-certified hit with “Brighter Than The Sun,” a co-write with Ryan Tedder (who also produced). Caillat has teamed up with Tedder once again for “Hold On,” the lead single from her yet-to-be-titled 2014 album (out, according to a press release, in the spring), but it’s obvious from both the song’s opening synth notes and emotional vocal delivery that it’s a whole new sound for Colbie. Mainly, “Hold On” plays like a ballad reserved for straightforward pop dolls like Katy PerryKelly Clarkson or Leona Lewis.

“Hold On” marks a completely different direction for Caillat, but with its oh-oh-ohs on the chorus, minimal lyrics and pleasant instrumentation, who knows — this all just might be repetitive enough to work its way into radio listeners’ brains to the point where it becomes the singer’s biggest hit to-date.
