Donatella Versace Talks Her Spring Campaign Starring Lady Gaga

Donatella Versace has inspired Lady Gaga to wear vintage Versace in music videos and even dress in matching outfits with the Italian designer herself, complete with a bleach blond wig. “She is like family to me, the embodiment of the Versace DNA,” Donatella recently said of the ARTPOP diva, which contains a song called “Donatella” no less.

As the star of Versace’s spring campaign, Gaga will appear as someone else entirely: “The girl on the street.” In Versace’s eyes, that girl wears chain mail, short skirts and “metallic Medusa head medallions the size of a fist,” The Independent reports. While Lady Gaga rarely makes appearances in anything resembling street wear, Versace assures that her upcoming ads capture “her true beauty and spirit in images that are elegant and alluring.”

Versace’s spring campaign, starring Gaga, was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott in London. Ads will start appearing in magazines in January 2014; for now, re-visit the Drake-approved Migos’ “Versace” video — featuring a Donatella lookalike! — and imagine the possibilities.
