Kanye West, Lil Wayne & Q-Tip Play Hype Men In Busta Rhymes’ “Thank You” Video: Watch

Busta Rhymes“Thank You” video initially appears to be a Brady Bunch affair. Directed by Director X (of Drake‘s “Worst Behavior”), the split-screen effort begins by introducing the two hip-hop labels being represented: Lil Wayne‘s Young Money (Busta) and Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music (Q-Tip, of legendary rap trio A Tribe Called Quest).

Instead, as with lyrical duties on the track itself, Busta and Q-Tip divide the screen time almost neatly in half. West briefly appears as still as a cardboard cut-out, while Weezy fades into the background, a strange feat unto itself. To a pop fan, the “Thank You” video may seem like these label heads deferred the dirty work to its signees. To a hip-hop fan though, it should feel like the reunion that they never knew they wanted.

Last week, A Tribe Called Quest opened for West for two of four Yeezus tour stops in New York — their last-ever performances. Given the bittersweet news, to watch the video is witness Busta and Q-Tip join forces as they did in Tribe’s heyday, like in the remix of The Low End Theory‘s “Scenario” and Midnight Marauders‘ “Oh My God.” “Thank You” is a rap family get-together, just not the sort that people may have expected — and that’s a great thing.

Watch the video up top, then revisit “Oh My God” after the jump.
