DJ Earworm Drops “United State Of Pop 2013”: Watch The Mash-Up Video

DJ Earworm‘s annual “United State Of Pop” mash-up single has become a holiday staple, and this year the producer unveiled the song a little early: Seamlessly blending samples from the 25 biggest songs of the year, it’s the “Royals” meets “Wrecking Ball” meets “Blurred Lines” supercut you never knew you needed.

“It’s a little darker-themed, I think,” he explained in an interview with Billboard. “The ballads seem to be a lot more present than they have been in many years, and the dance music is having less strong of a pull.”

Indeed, there is a slightly edgier sound to this one than in years past — it’s clear that the vibe in pop was a less euphoric one, as the EDM predominance in chart pop begins to dwindle — and that makes it all the more worth hearing.
