Red Hot Chili Peppers Will Join Bruno Mars At Super Bowl Halftime Show
Bruno Mars interrupted FOX’s January 11 football broadcast (above) to talk about his anticipated Super Bowl halftime show. “The thing is, I want to raise the stakes,” he said. “I want to give [New Jersey’s] MetLife Stadium and the viewers at home a real musical experience, do something fun, do something exciting, maybe even a little unexpected.”
Turns out, Mars invited the Red Hot Chili Peppers to join him.
FOX announced Mars as its halftime performer with a commercial, featuring footage of him as a 4-year-old Elvis Presley impersonator — as a host said, “tomorrow’s King of Rock and Roll.” Through Unorthodox Jukebox, he’s since made himself known for his savvy blend of ’50s pop, ’60s Motown and damning Sting impersonation, which could make for an interesting match to the Chili Peppers’ funk-meets-punk machismo.
