Kylie Minogue Talks Returning To Her Roots On New Music: “The Sound Retains My DNA”

Well! Kylie Minogue‘s new single “Into The Blue” will get its big radio premiere on January 27, but the dance-pop icon is continuing to talk up the new single in an interview with The Daily Mail, where she talks about the transition of signing to Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation label and reinvigorating her sound.

On the subject of “Blue,” she explained, “The sound essentially retains my DNA, and what a Kylie song is, but I think that gives me room to manoeuvre because you have something like ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head,’ to ‘Slow,’ to ‘I Believe in You,’ to ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ — it’s still within the pop/dance arena.” The fact that she’s been name-checking so many previous singles sounds extremely promising.

“But what it has done… for me most importantly, is injected a freshness and a vitality into doing what is basically what I’ve always done,” she said. “I needed to have a fresh approach and Roc Nation has helped me to do that.”

As for the other songs on her upcoming LP (also titled Into The Blue), she said that even if not every song gets a video treatment, she’ll be finding ways to give them something visual: “I hope I have the budget to do them!,” she said. “Yeah there are definitely tracks that visually I can’t wait to explore. Some that I don’t think would be singles, I’m thinking about, ‘How am I going to do that on tour?’ And that’s really really exciting.”
