Lily Allen Promises To Make You Mad On New Album

Lily Allen courted plenty of controversy with her satirical single “Hard Out Here” (and its lacerating video), and the songstress promises that it won’t stop there: “When you put something out there, people want to write about it,” she said in an interview with NME. “They want the hits, they want American Apparel to advertise on their blog. So, yeah, I’m sure people will find things to get angry about on the record.” Uh-oh.

That said! Just because the lyrics might get listeners a little riled doesn’t mean that the sound will. NME reports that it’s “a modern sounding pop album.” As Allen elaborates, “The last couple [of albums] looked to the past for their influences, whether it was ska or reggae or whatever, but this one doesn’t do that at all. There’s one that has a quite country-ish, Primal Scream-y vibe to it — but that’s about the extent of it.”

Not sure exactly what she means, since 2009’s excellent It’s Not Me, It’s You was largely polished, modern synthpop (although her debut was more diverse) — but either way, hope to find more of that sound on this coming LP.
