Charli XCX Unveils New (Very Brief) Song “Allergic To Love”: Listen

Charli XCX went all slick pop with her recent single “SuperLove,” but she’s gone fuzzy and electropunk with new offering “Allergic To Love,” which clocks in at 71 rather noisy seconds. It’s not clear whether it’s just a scratch demo or something properly canonical but either way, it’s catchy and appealingly shouty — call it punk-lite, if you will — and appears to be a collaboration with Swedish alt-rockers Snuffed By The Yakuza, which includes her longtime producer Patrik Berger (he of Robyn‘s “Dancing On My Own” fame). (I’m assuming as much based on the title.)

Either way, it’s rough around the edges and rawer than her previous output — and while it may not sound much like the Charli of her last LP, it reflects the intensity and vitality of her live performances.
