Lykke Li Is Prepping A New Album, Due Out In May

Swedish songstress Lykke Li has been pretty quiet since her 2011 LP Wounded Rhymes dropped, spawning the ubiquitous track “Get Some” and brilliant sophomore single “I Follow Rivers,” but that doesn’t mean the singer-songwriter hasn’t been hard at work cooking up more melancholy Scandinavian gloompop for you — and today, Li announced that she’s ready to release her third album in May.

In an interview with NME, she shared that she conceived this album as the third in a trilogy that began with her debut Youth Novels in 2008: “Hopefully this one [is] the last in this chapter,” she said. “It’s always about me and the guilt and the shame and the hurt and the pride and the confusion of being a woman.”

Also, don’t be surprised if this one has less of a pop sensibility than her first two offerings. “I always feel like I’ve been slightly misunderstood,” she said. “As a woman you get judged for appearances or things like that I don’t really care about. If anything I want to be seen as a singer-songwriter rather than a pop artist. I really feel like I’ve found my voice.”

Li’s album has yet to receive a title.
