Jay Z Added To Lineup Of Grammys Performers

Jay Z is confirmed to perform at the 56th annual Grammy Awards. Among a slew of others, he joins Kendrick Lamar, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and, best of all, Beyonce.

Last week, mere rumors of Beyonce’s slot inspired fans to imagine the royal hip-hop couple teaming up on stage. Would they perform “Part II (On the Run),” the Grammy-nominated Magna Carta Holy Grail sequel to “’03 Bonnie & Clyde”? Would they perform rising chart hit “Drunk In Love”? (Public Service Announcement: ‘BREAKFAST’ crewnecks are now for sale.)

As of now, a duet seems totally bound to happen. It’s still worth noting, though, that Jay Z’s performance is kind of a feat unto itself. In 2002, he protested the Grammys because DMX wasn’t nominated. “[T]oo many major rap artists continue to be overlooked,” he said. Jay Z did show up to last year’s awards, but he also poured cognac for himself throughout, appearing bored. From a fan’s perspective, it was hard to blame him; nearly all of rap’s big winners, including Drake, had accepted their awards before the ceremony was televised.
