Miguel Talks New Album, Writing With Jessie Ware

Miguel plans to release his third album this fall, and with help from Jessie Ware and J. Cole, he says to The Hollywood Reporter. Ware remixed Miguel’s surprise hit “Adorn” last summer, while J. Cole has worked with Miguel here and there since the latter’s 2010 single, “All I Want Is You.”

The collaborations resulted from a two-week stint of writing in Los Angeles — according to Miguel, only the start to following up his ambitious 2012 album, Kaleidoscope Dream. “I’d been collecting ideas and writing down concepts and phrases and all those things you hoard as you’re moving along, and that very first day in the first hour, we had something special,” he says. “I think my spirit was ready to go and ride the wave, so to speak.”

By “moving along,” Miguel was referring to when he toured with Drake for his Would You Like A Tour? dates. While Drake and fellow opener Future would jog across the stage as if performing basketball drills, Miguel would grind, leap and land into splits like James Brown. He already appeared confident with his directness, but as he tells THR, he wants to take things a step further.

“Touring off the first album was really interesting to feel and see how and when the music did or did not connect,” Miguel says. “I took a lot of time to figure it out. While creating Kaleidoscope Dream that was a huge factor in the sounds I chose. I would like to say this album picks up where Kaleidoscope Dream left off and pushes it further. It will be even more suited for live performance.”
