2014 Grammy Ratings Narrowly Top Last Year’s

Despite a more-bloated-than-usual telecast, the 2014 Grammy Awards last night (January 26) brought in 28.5 million viewers, up 100,000 from last year’s 28.4M haul. The 10.1 rating for CBS matches last year’s score, but the total audience was the show’s second-highest since 1993, behind 2012’s huge broadcast, which attracted 40 million viewers due to Adele‘s return after throat surgery and a tribute to Whitney Houston just one day after her death.

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards were dominated by big-ticket collaborations, including a massive wedding ceremony soundtracked live by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Madonna and Trombone Shorty. Daft Punk were the night’s big winners, taking home Record Of The Year and Album Of The Year.
