It’s been a minute since we’ve heard new music from Miguel. The “Adorn” hitmaker has been concentrating on the follow up to his breakthrough 2012 LP Kaleidoscope Dreams with but found the time to contribute a gem called “Simplethings” to the Girls, Vol. 2: All Adventurous Women Do… soundtrack at Lena Dunham‘s request.

The 28-year-old leaves the languid R&B of his critically acclaimed sophomore set behind — singing about his perfect lady over hazy guitars on “Simplethings”. There’s an edge to the song and an urgency in Miguel’s vocal that shows the ever-evolving artist in a whole new light. “I don’t need a model, I don’t need a debutante,” he croons. “Just be a hard act to follow.” Listen after the jump.
