George Michael’s “Let Her Down Easy” Video: Watch The Moving, Circus-Themed Clip

Terence Trent D’Arby‘s touching 1993 ballad “Let Her Down Easy” has been covered by George Michael for the lead single off the latter’s Symphonica (out March 17), and the beautiful, piano-driven track now has an equally gorgeous video to go with it. Michael paired up with director Vaughn Arnell for the clip, who was behind such classic visuals as George’s own “Outside,” Spice Girls‘ “Say You’ll Be There,” Dead Or Alive‘s “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” and even One Direction‘s “What Makes You Beautiful.” (He also shot the vids for Terence Trent D’Arby’s late-’80s classics “Sign Your Name” and “Dance Little Sister.”)

The cautionary tale told in George’s video centers around a pair of circus performers — a handsome, love-experienced ringmaster and a virginal young acrobat — who have a romantic interlude. It’s already a given that the young man is going to have his way with the girl. But, as the title suggests, the song’s lyrics implore the guy to not lead the girl on and just deflate her hopes for a future relationship as gently as possible.
