“Okay #Olympics2014 I’m impressed,” Nile Rodgers tweeted on February 7.

He was watching the opening ceremony at Sochi’s Fisht Olympic Stadium. And, while he may have been about the flying 11-year-old Liza Temnikova or the Dumbo-inspired balloon homage to St. Petersburg’s cathedrals, the iconic guitarist was likely talking about the Russian police choir (politsaya)’s performance of Daft Punk‘s “Get Lucky.”

The choir has become known for covering pop hits, including Adele‘s “Skyfall.” Most of its singers appeared stiff if not completely unimpressed by Daft Punk’s disco throwback, Pharrell‘s lyrical wooing and even the bassline that both cemented Chic‘s legacy and helped spark Rodgers’ collaborations with Avicii (“Wake Me Up,” “Lay Me Down” featuring Adam Lambert) and Disclosure (“Together” featuring Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes) — but this rendition is charming nonetheless. Check out the performance after the jump.

The politsaya‘s cover was also a bright spot for the opening ceremony. Its theme was “Dreams About Russia,” as evidenced by the Peter Pan-like splendor and not a single piece of commentary by NBC; host Meredith Viera advised viewers to Google the Russian alphabet Cyrillic, while Matt Lauer explained “YOLO” as if Drake and Fritz Lang hadn’t beat him to it. In comparison, the charmingly awkward politsaya clearly put forth far more effort.
