JoJo continues to thank supporters with her new EP. #LoveJo, released February 14, is her first new music since she was released from Blackground Records and signed to Atlantic — and, perhaps, a stunning sign of what’s to come.

#LoveJoJo is respectful of R&B tradition and tastefully modern at the same time. The crystalline runs of spiritual “Oh Glory” is proof positive of the former, although of the four tracks, the EP’s biggest surprise may show how JoJo nails this balance best. In a bait-and-switch that recalls how Miguel‘s “Don’t Look Back” surprised by interpolating The Zombies, JoJo’s neo-soul take of Anita Baker‘s “Caught Up in the Rapture” dissolves into glitchy loops, before a step-team beat launches a cavernous cover of Phil Collins’ “Take Me Home.” It’s the No Jacket Required classic by way of Beyonce‘s “Jealous.”
