50 Cent Is Indie Now, Has A New Album On The Way

50 Cent is officially an indie rapper (but don’t expect him to start wearing a backpack). The star today (February 20) announced his departure from Shady/Aftermath/Interscope after 12 years on Eminem‘s imprint. He has signed a deal to bring G-Unit to Caroline, which is an independent division of Capitol Music Group. “I have had great success to date with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope and I’d like to thank Eminem and Dr. Dre for giving me an incredible opportunity,” Fif said in a statement. “I’ve learned so much from them through the years. I am excited to enter this new era where I can carry out my creative vision.”

Fiddy’s move comes after his planned fifth album Street King Immortal faced perpetual delays, despite the fact that he released a couple (pretty good!) singles last  year. As part of his new deal, he has seemingly scrapped plans for that album, and instead announced the LP Animal Ambition, due for a June 3 release.
