‘Divergent’ Soundtrack: New Music From Ellie Goulding, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, M83 & More

I don’t know when this “tween movie with an absolutely sick soundtrack” trend started — Twilight couldn’t have been the first, and Batman Forever wasn’t a tween vehicle, soo…? — but I’m not mad at it. The latest stellar example comes from Divergent, which is some Hunger Games-looking movie starring Kate Winslet and a bunch of pretty young people. But the tracklist, my God! Not only do we get new music from Ellie Goulding, M83, Skrillex and more, but some outstanding new collaborations are also thrown in. More like convergent, right?! (A thousand apologies.)

Kendrick Lamar is teaming up with psychedelic Aussie riff gods Tame Impala for a reworking of their track “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards,” and you can just imagine how rad it will be when K-Dot raps with a band that isn’t Imagine Dragons. In the album’s other big hip-hop collab, A$AP Rocky joins French electro sorcerer (and Yeezus collaborator) Gesaffelstein for “In Distress.”
