Pharrell recruited Miley Cyrus for the vocal hook on emerging rapper Buddy‘s new song “Smoke Signals,” an addictive track built on Pharrell’s breezy beat and Miley’s echoing background vocals. She’s in true siren mode here, and it is powerful.
While the “Smoke Signals” title probably has you thinking you’ll hear more of her tired drug sing-raps, this is nothing like that! In between Buddy’s verses, Miley gives an elegant vocal turn that shows when she isn’t mugging for the cameras or chewing up the studio scenery, she’s really pleasant to listen to. It was easy to forget that!
