John Mayer Trio Performs “After Midnight” On ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’: Watch
A (newly single) John Mayer reunited his John Mayer Trio for their first TV performance in roughly five years on Late Night with Seth Meyers Thursday (February 27). Mayer was decked out in dad-wave (or is it #normcore now?), wearing a cardigan and transitions lenses for their cover of JJ Cale‘s “After Midnight.” The attire fit the jazzy coffeehouse vibe of the performance, which felt decades older than Mayer’s and Meyers’ demographics but offered up some solid solos.
Joining bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan for the stint were Chick Corea, Manolo Madrena and Wallace Roney. Check it out up top and read Mayer’s tweet about the gig below.
Watched it back and I have to say: cool on the part of @latenightseth to feature 4:30 of a song from the ’70s played mostly instrumental.
