Foxes Mashes Massive Attack’s “Teardrop” With Pharrell’s “Happy”: Watch Her Incredible Cover

Leave it to Foxes to turn Pharrell‘s serotonin-raising “Happy” into a heart-rending synth ballad. The Glorious diva dropped by BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge earlier this week and offered a completely unexpected take on the Despicable Me 2 chart-topper — for starters, she mashed it up with Massive Attack‘s 1998 trip hop classic “Teardrop”.

The 24-year-old’s interpretation begins like an eerie lament, with the Brit showing off her powerful pipes over “Teardrop”‘s melancholy opening notes. Just when you think you know where she’s going with her distinctly unhappy cover of “Happy”, Foxes ups the tempo and gets her groove on. Trust me, you won’t “feel like a room without a roof” after watching this wacky mash. See it up top.

Is Foxes’ cover of “Happy” a hit or miss? Have your say in the comments below.
