Here’s an unexpectedly great shot of electro-pop from Salt Lake City, Utah! Newcomers Oh, Be Clever — a duo consisting of vocalist Brittney Shields and music man Cory Scott Layton — impress with infectious new single “Next To You”, which sounds like a cross between La Roux and Phantogram. (Not exactly a bad thing).
The synth-splattered, ’80s-referencing anthem was born when the pair went through brutal break-ups at the same time. “[It was] the kind of breakup that makes you question your sanity at all hours of everyday,” explains Brittney. “I had to constantly see pictures of him and his new girlfriend all over social media, and it KILLED me inside.” Been there.
