Tyler, The Creator Arrested Due To SXSW “Riot”

Tyler, the Creator was arrested March 15 for allegedly inciting a riot at SXSW. Police say that the Odd Future ringleader had yelled at fans twice to push past festival employees to see his March 13 performance at venue Scoot Inn, which had already reached full capacity. “All y’all inside the gates, y’all push through,” Tyler said, according to Austin station KXAN.

If convicted, Tyler, the Creator would face up to a year in jail at a $4,000 fine. Fox News says that his bond is set at $3,500 while KXAN reports that it’s at $25,000.

Police say that one employee reported being punched in the face by a fan in the crowd, while official footage also shows how fans rushed into Scoot Inn’s outdoor space. According to Pitchfork blog The Pitch, Austin’s fire department has kept a close watch at capacity throughout SXSW, though to the point where venues were less than halfway full by appearance. Chance the Rapper‘s March 11 set was also abruptly canceled “due to capacity issues.”

Meanwhile, Tyler the Creator had canceled a March 14 evening show for Tumblr, following the Scoot Inn show and reports of the SXSW car crash tragedy that mentioned his name. “Dear You, That Tragedy That Happened Has Absolutly NOTHING To Do With The Show At Thrasher At A Different Location A Day Later,” he said on Twitter. “So Please Stop Going Out Of Your Way To Mention The Tragedy And Tie Me To It, Thats Not Cool And It Bums Me Out.”
