Shakira Brings “Empire” To ‘Tonight Show’: Watch
To celebrate the release of her self-titled album (and get that NBC synergy promo), Shakira magically appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (March 25) following an episode of The Voice earlier that evening. Shak performed her latest single “Empire,” and while her stans pull out their hair because she’s letting the great “Dare (La La La)” sit unnoticed on the shelf, they should give this song its due! It’s weird and sexy, with a refreshingly quaint, straightforward pop feel reminiscent of the no-frills hits of the ’90s.
The late night performance really brought out the song’s jarring quiet/loud dynamic, and while the backing track was doing most of the legwork during the chorus, Shakira snarled like a she-wolf and sold it. Check it out up top, and watch her chat with Jimmy about her son below.
