Pharrell’s “Happy” Finally Gets A Sad Remix: Listen

“Happy,” Pharrell‘s inescapable exercise in truth-in-advertising, has finally been given the sad treatment. (The fact that it’s only happening now must be a testament to our society’s inherent optimism or something.) European multi-hyphenate Woodkid, who has worked with Katy Perry and Lana Del Rey, is the genius behind the contradictory reinterpretation. For this treatment, he has stripped the hit of all its chipper retro dance appeal and turned into into a melodramatic minor chord sob-fest, placing the vocals over sweeping strings and piano.
