Kelly Clarkson And Martina McBride Join Forces On “In The Basement”: Listen

You would be forgiven for thinking a Kelly Clarkson and Martina McBride duet would be a country-tinged affair. (After all, we know how much the inaugural American Idol winner like to dabble in the genre). Well, think again. The gals’ interpretation of Etta James‘ “In The Basement” is actually a soaring soul anthem.

The song is part of Martina’s independently released Everlasting LP, which finds the enduring country diva tackling classic R&B tunes from artists like Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. It sounds like a stretch in theory but if this excellent Don Was-produced collaboration is anything to go by, we’re in for a real treat. Listen to Kelly and Ms. McBride trade vocal blows after the jump.

Is this a good sound for Kelly and Martina? Let us know in the comments below.
