Whatcha Say: Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato and Kylie Minogue Got Our Readers Talking

Bradley Stern | March 28, 2014 5:30 pm

Happy Friday, Idolator readers! (And Happy Birthday, Lady Gaga!) This week was full of pop magic — from the release of Shakira‘s self-titled new album, to Beyonce‘s strange ‘Get Going’ Japanese Toyota commercial, to The Vamps covering One Direction (BOY BAND OVERLOAD) to Selena Gomez‘s mysterious “secret project.”

We also had a bunch of excitement right here too, including the premiere of Travie McCoy and Brendon Urie‘s “Keep On Keeping On” music video and Cyndi Lauper‘s fascinating “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” audio evolution from punk demo to pop perfection. And speaking of Cyndi, we’ve got our She’s So Unusual: 30th Anniversary Celebration giveaway happening right now, as well as our Karmin signed CD giveaway. Make sure to enter to win!

As always, you guys had plenty to say. Check out the best comments of the week below!

:: John thought Kylie was stuntin’ on us with her Instagram on Kylie Minogue Is Releasing A Video For ‘Kiss Me Once’ Bonus Track “Mr. President”?: “You think it’s promising, but I think it’s stunt promotion. President is a weak track, and if they’re making a video for this over more worthy tracks like Million Miles and I Was Gonna Cancel, they must be trying to push sales and chart placement via viral videos instead of legit singles.”

:: But Michael D. was just loving it all: “I Was Gonna Cancel is nice, but it’s hardly one of the choice cuts. This is what singles/videos/buzz promos are for..selling. I’m thrilled they’re doing all kinds of left-field promo. This album has LOTS of stuff to work with. My faves are Kiss Me Once and Sexy Love, among others. Really great album, overall!”

:: Romy‘s already deeply unimpressed with Selena’s #secretproject on Selena Gomez Announces A ‘Secret Project’: Is New Music On The Way?: “A secret project? Madonna she’s not…not that Madonna has any weight much in music of film these days. Even if it were a movie or music….we all know how “Stars Dance” and “Getaway” turned out…”

:: buylotusonitunes watched our interview with Akon and drew some conclusions on Akon Plays Pop Associated, Talks Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Gwen Stefani, Whitney Houston & More: “The way he talks about Lady Gaga kinda confirms her belief that all of the people around her just viewed her as a cash cow.”

:: COOLCAT sided with Demi Lovato on Lady Gaga Responds To Demi Lovato’s SXSW Criticism: “I Am Very Supportive Of Demi’s Struggle”: “Im with Demi, when singers like MIley Cyrus glamorise drugs (we cant stop) and Lady Gaga make eating disorders seem ‘fun’, its actually pretty dumb. But one question 4 Demi? We Cant Stop has lyrics about Drug Use in Positive sense, yet Demi kept her mouth shut and even added lyrics from that song in her book!”

:: GLM, um, kept us informed: “Well, judging by Demi’s comments, it sounds like she is pretty culturally-uninformed (which is exactly what most culturally-informed, properly-educated people would assume about her, anyway). Perhaps she has a preexisting dislike for Lady Gaga that pushed her to make that leap that having a “vomit artist” vomit onto her onstage must indicate glamorizing an eating disorder. However, even someone who is culturally-uniformed should have the cognitive ability by her age to understand that even if one were to completely ignore the fact that this was obviously an artistic statement, most acts of vomiting are not the result of an eating disorder.”

:: And boosie just wanted to call the whole thing off: “Gaga has to apologize for nothing. Demi is entitled to her opinions but should not affect Gaga in any way. Let erry1 do their thang.”

:: Caleb questioned our hard-hitting analysis of Justin Bieber‘s abs on Justin Bieber Shows Off His Washboard Abs On Instagram: 2 Pics: “Clearly someone doesn’t know what a washboard looks like. These are more like “ironing board” abs. Nice try, though.”

:: And finally, Oscar read between Shakira’s lips on Shakira Brings “Empire” To ‘Tonight Show’: Watch: “Shaki, if you’re trying to prove something to the US audience and gain new fans, maybe you shouldn’t lip sync. It’s blatant, insulting, and embarrassing.”
