Lorde Posts Unedited Photo Of Herself To Remind Fans “Flaws Are OK”

Lorde took to Twitter recently to post two photos of herself — one retouched, the other untouched — to remind her fans that the images of celebrities they see are fantastical and that imperfection is acceptable. “I find this curious,” she wrote, “two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real. remember flaws are ok :-).” The tweet was accompanied by a pair of recent shots from a daytime concert, with blemishes clearly visible in one.

Whether it’s a post like this, or a song like “***Flawless,” any little reminder that the “celebrity ideal” is all a ruse is important. Sure, magazine covers and the like are obviously airbrushed (oftentimes in unintentionally hilarious fashion), but I’m guessing not many people — let alone teenagers — would assume that even a shot from a live show would be so intensely Photoshopped.

See Lorde’s tweet with both photos below.
