Jennifer Lopez Outbids Puff Daddy For Fuse

Jennifer Lopez has outbid Puff Daddy for ownership of music channel Fuse, according to Billboard. After Puff Daddy – returning rapper, REVOLT TV mogul, and, yes, Lopez’s ex-boyfriend – had placed a $200 million bid last month, Fuse was officially sold to SiTV Media, parent company to NuvoTV (of which Lopez is chief creative officer) for $226 million.

“Music is my first love so the acquisition of Fuse is near and dear to my heart,” Lopez said in the statement. “It’s exciting that between NuvoTV and Fuse we’ll have the ability to deliver a broad array of terrific content both from a Latino perspective and across multiple genres, including music, to a broader audience.”

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence,” said Lopez’s manager Benny Medina to Billboard, of how the exes both bid for Fuse. “In many ways, Jennifer and Sean are cut from the same cloth. They’re both passionate artists of the same generation who think on a grand and global scale. They were two superstars seeking to build their brand, who happened to be Jennifer and Puffy.”

Fuse only falls second to MTV as the highest rated music channel, although those in general have struggled to maintain a substantial viewership. For Lopez and Puff Daddy, though, Fuse’s audience of 73 million subscribers acts as a much-needed boost to their own, fledgling TV networks. Plus, aside from a JLo series, NuvoTV airs a largely non-musical line-up that includes Dexter reruns and boxing reality show Knockout.
