Ashanti recently dropped by the Idolator studio to chat about Braveheart, the diva’s first LP in six years, as well as her journey as an independent artist but also reminisced about the massive success of 2002 debut solo single “Foolish”. The timeless R&B anthem spent what felt like an eternity at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the then 22-year-old a well-deserved Grammy nomination.

“Looking back, even now, it’s like oh my gosh. I literally was in two or three different states in one day,” Ashanti remembers. “The fact that we broke history in Def Jam records and on Billboard, I think it was like 11 weeks consecutive. It was an amazing experience.” And the song’s legacy still lives on. “The DJ puts ‘Foolish’ on and it causes mayhem 12 years later, [which] is phenomenal.”
