Ed Sheeran Raps On ‘x’ Deluxe Track “Take It Back”: Watch

Quite some time ago, Ed Sheeran promised his sophomore album would have a hip-hop influence, and his Pharrell-produced lead single “Sing” certainly delivered on that, with its fast-paced verses and syncopated beat. And now on x deluxe album track “Take It Back,” Sheeran is straight-up rapping.

The British singer recently performed an acoustic version of the song for SBTV, and it’s an inspirational look at his rags-to-riches tale, littered with white-boy-on-the-quad, LFO-level bars (“Onto the next saga, we drink the best lager, I’ll never try to win you over like your stepfather”). Dude’s gotta work on his breath control and pop culture references (Macy Gray, Jack Black), but it’s got a killer chorus and a solid balance of speed, braggadocio and self-deprecation (at one point he references his lack of sex appeal and Worst-Dressed title).

Give it a listen below.
