Did One Direction Steal Their “You & I” Video Concept From Australian Band Clubfeet?

One Direction‘s “You & I” video was praised for its innovative approach but it turns out the boys might have lifted the idea from an Australian band called Clubfeet — at least according to the producers of “Everything You Wanted”. Melbourne-based production studio Oh Yeah Wow, who created the distinctive visual, expressed their outrage via social media.

“Considering the sleep deprivation one must endure to create an original piece with practically no budget, you can start to understand the annoyance we might feel when some affluent young bucks and a director devoid of creativity, decide to effectively steal (and subsequently dilute) our idea,” they wrote on their blog.

While the videos begin differently enough, there are striking similarities between One Direction’s “You & I” and the alleged source material from the 2:45 minute mark onward, when the boys start morphing into suspended/frozen likenesses of themselves. The producers are calling on fans to tweet 1D and director Ben Winston with #NoDirection. Compare the videos after the jump.
