Kimbra Returns With Experimental Single “90s Music”: Listen To The Demented Delight

New Zealand’s original alt-pop princess Kimbra is back with the first taste of her sophomore set. And “90s Music” couldn’t be any further removed from the stripped-back earnestness of Gotye duet “Somebody That I Used To Know” — the Grammy-winning missive that propelled the then 21-year-old to worldwide fame.

Of course, that inescapable break-up anthem wasn’t particularly reflective of Kimbra’s debut either. Vows was a curious melting pot of pop, jazz and indie influences but “90s Music” is even more twisted. Produced by Rich Costey, the intricately-layered sonic adventure sounds like a cross between The Flaming Lips and quirky Swedish diva Elliphant — only with a divinely measured vocal and a unexpectedly addictive chorus. Listen after the jump.
