Brandy Talks New Album: “I Just Want To Scream”

Fans last heard from Brandy in 2012’s Two Eleven, what her label Chameleon called “no gimmicks, real R&B music.” A month after its release, she revealed that she was already back in the studio with producers-in-crime from throughout her career, like Sean Garrett, James Fauntleroy and Pharrell. The news was bittersweet. While fans love Two Eleven‘s back-to-basics (though with some bass) approach, the album failed to catch on at the charts, and Brandy knew that. So even while smiling, she sounded uncertain of herself.

Fast forward to last night, the May 9 episode of The Arsenio Hall Show. Brandy reveals that she will be working on a new album this summer, and this time she sounds ready. “This is the perfect time for me to sing,” she says, before she explains why. Not only does she plan to write songs about life, love and motherhood, but she hopes to make herself heard, literally. “I just want to scream on this album,” Brandy said, before she raised her arms and belted a note. Or, as Arsenio says, sang.

Sounds better, right? Watch Brandy spill the news up top, then see her mother Sonja Norwood describe how the R&B star “grew up to be a little sassy” below.
