5 Seconds Of Summer Tops iTunes With “Don’t Stop”, Confirms Status As Next Big Thing

5 Seconds Of Summer unveiled the cover and tracklist of their self-titled debut LP yesterday (May 13) but, before that arrives, the Australian boy band is releasing another EP — their second this year and fourth in total — to keep fans occupied. Don’t Stop dropped this morning and immediately topped the iTunes album chart. Impressively, the title track pulled the same trick on the singles chart.

While iTunes success doesn’t automatically translate into Billboard domination, it’s a fairly accurate of indication of popularity — particularly among the younger demographic. Why has 5SOS succeeded where so many international acts (The Wanted, The Vamps, Little Mix etc) have failed? The support of One Direction certainly didn’t hurt but their music stands on its own. “Don’t Stop” is a near-perfect summer pop/rock anthem. Watch the comic book-themed lyric video after the jump. Chances are, you’ll be hearing it a lot over the next couple of months.
