‘Frozen’ Soundtrack’s Chart Reign Ends As ‘Now 50’ Debuts With Top Spot

Rather fittingly, as the weather has finally, mercifully closed out the chapter on this brutal 2013-14 winter, Frozen‘s reign atop the Billboard 200 album chart has ended. The film soundtrack spent 13 nonconsecutive weeks in the #1 spot, but for the week ending May 11, it was eclipsed by Now 50. Blech, it’s always such a bummer when a Now compilation takes the top spot, isn’t it?

The 50th installment of the Now series, which began in 1998, opened with 153,000 sales, compared to Frozen‘s 99,000 (following seven straight weeks of sales over 100k). As for Now 50, this is the 18th #1 for the franchise, and the last one to sell more units in a given week was Now 31‘s 169,000-sale debut in July 2009.

Five other albums made their debut in the top 10 this week, including Hunter Hayes‘ Storyline and Sarah McLachlan‘s Shine On. See the top ten albums of this week’s chart below.
