Hear Coldplay’s ‘Ghost Stories’ Bonus Tracks

Coldplay‘s sixth album, Ghost Storiesdropped yesterday (May 19), and the lovelorn LP successfully stripped away many of the more tired aspects of the band’s sound, a transformation sparked at least partly by the dissolution of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow‘s marriage. At nine tracks, it’s a quick and quiet sob session, but the band also released a Target deluxe edition that included the three bonus tracks “Ghost Story,” “All Your Friends” and “O (Part 2 – Reprise).”

The trio of songs hit the Web today, and any of these offerings would’ve been a nice addition to the proper album (especially as a replacement for “A Sky Full Of Stars”). As a “classic” Coldplay acoustic anthem for the rafters, “Ghost Story” may not have fit aesthetically, but its “Every time I try to pull you close, you disappear” refrain certainly would have sounded at home. “All Your Friends,” meanwhile, is loaded with ethereal electronics and mini-starbursts of percussion. As for the “O” reprise, the only difference I can make out is an outro tacked onto the original outro.
