Miley Cyrus Covers The Smiths At Belfast Concert: Watch

Imagine if Morrissey was actually on Twitter. Earlier this week, the social networking site had verified the account @itsmorrissey to be official, only for the former Smiths frontman (and subject of a forthcoming biopic) to issue a statement saying otherwise. “I do not know who has opened this recent Twitter account, but please be aware that it is bogus,” he said in a statement sent to fan site True to You. (It was actually created five years ago.) “That’s, of course, if you should remotely care.”

It could have been interesting, at least, to see how he reacted to Miley Cyrus covering the Smiths.

During her May 19 concert in Belfast, she posted a clip of her singing “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out,” off 1986’s essential The Queen Is Dead. While it’s easy to get caught up in all the props featured on her Bangerz tour (The Big Sean bobblehead! That giant inflatable likeness of Floyd!), Cyrus has also surprised spectators with her wide-ranging covers, from Lana Del Rey‘s “Summertime Sadness” to a bluegrass version of OutKast‘s “Hey Ya.”

Of course, all of that led to her teaming with the Flaming Lips to cover the Beatles‘s “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, a performance that featured props galore.
