Janelle Monae Performs “Electric Lady” On ‘The Maya Rudolph Show’ Amid Tour Cancellation: Watch
Janelle Monae helped comedian Maya Rudolph debut her anticipated variety show by performing “Electric Lady,” off her 2013 album of (almost) the same name. While initial reviews for The Maya Rudolph Show have been mixed, its studio audience showed how tough it can be to resist Monae’s bonafide energy and charms. Just as on The Arsenio Hall Show months prior, Monae was backed by a full band but could have easily captivated the crowd all by herself.
It’s a shame, then, that a mystery illness has slowed Monae down.
On May 20, less than a day after Maya Rudolph‘s TV debut, Live Nation Australasian announced she has canceled her five-city Golden Electric Tour, billed as a co-headlining trek with Kimbra. “Due to Janelle Monáe’s continuing illness it has been confirmed that the remainder of ‘The Golden Electric Tour’ has been cancelled and there will be no rescheduled performances,” Live Nation says, according to Billboard. Details regarding a full refund will be announced by tomorrow, May 21.
