Lana Del Rey Debuts “Ultraviolence” At Vancouver Concert: Watch

Lana Del Rey continues to surprise with Ultraviolence. Over the weekend, she debuted the album’s title track during her May 26 concert at Vancouver’s PNE Amphitheatre. And the song about domestic abuse — made to sound as lush and romantic as most of 2012’s Born to Die — was met with cheers. “I can hear sirens, sirens / He hit me and it felt like a kiss / I can hear violins, violins / Give me all of that ultraviolence,” she sings.

Fans are used to hearing Lana profess her love with a sense of grandeur. “I will love you till the end of time, I will wait a million years,” she insists in “Blue Jeans,” echoing sentiments heard throughout Born to Die.  But she’s never done so in a way that’s felt this complicated or dangerous as she does on “Ultraviolence.” Even saying that she sings of domestic abuse sounds ugly — especially since she likens it to a kiss. This will spark some controversy, no doubt.

Hear Lana Del Rey premiere Ultraviolence‘s title track after the jump.
