La Roux‘s Trouble In Paradise buzz track “Let Me Down Gently” was glorious in all its synth-moodiness, but it didn’t really scream OH MY GOD, WHAT A PROPER COMEBACK, now, did it? That’s okay, because the duo — actually, scratch that, as Elly Jackson is doing it all alone now as a one-woman show — have premiered official new single “Uptight Downtown. It’s a frenetic pop gem with a slinky bass, reverb-filled synth riffs and Jackson’s trademark layered vocals.

The chorus is a killer, with Elly warning that “the temperature is rising” atop the busy but hook-riddled instrumentation. This, pop fanatics, is what we’ve been waiting for from Grammy winners La Roux.
