Ed Sheeran Debuts ‘Sing’ B-Side “Friends”: Listen

Ed Sheeran has released a Sing EP ahead of his next album x, and with it comes a new song titled “Friends.” The acoustic ballad finds him delivering hushed, but stinging critiques at someone who’s been misleading, as likely inspired by the same break-up he’s been alluding to lately: “Friends just sleep in another bed / and friends don’t treat me like you do / Well, I know there’s a limit to everything / but my friends won’t love me like you.”

To fans, “Friends” comes the closest to how they imagined Sheeran would write a kiss-off, before he started revealing songs from x, out June 23. So far, he’s surprised by fleshing out his founding hip hop-meets-acoustic folk sound, in songs like the Justified-inspired “Sing” and the doo wop-tinged, dirt-spilling “Don’t.” With that new material in mind, “Friends” seems more like a prelude to it all – or proof that he couldn’t keep that quiet for long. Hear it after the jump.
