MØ Tore Up The Troubadour: Live Review

finished up her first headline tour of North America at the Troubadour in Los Angeles last night (June 4) with a killer set of twisted electro-pop tunes and even a demented Spice Girls cover. The Danish diva instantly won over the crowd with her rowdy antics — she climbed into the bleachers, indulged in some crowd-surfing and prowled the stage like a caged tiger — but held their interest with genuine charisma and a remarkably versatile voice.

The 25-year-old opened the high-energy gig with “Fire Rides” and diligently worked her way through most of debut LP No Mythologies To Follow. Highlights included Diplo-produced floorfiller “XXX 88”, breakthrough single “Pilgrim” and moody synth-anthem “Waste Of Time”. However, Karen Marie Ørsted (her real name) saved the best for last.

The ponytail-whipping bad ass sparked a Spice Girls sing-a-long with her gloomy version of “Say You’ll Be There” before belting out current single “Don’t Wanna Dance”. It’s an ironic title because the entire venue was moving to the furious indie-pop gem. MØ more than lived up to the hype. She brings something wild and untamed to the pop scene, which makes her a name to watch.
