Kendrick Lamar Confirms Dr. Dre’s Involved In His Next Album

Dr. Dre is focused like he always been,” Kendrick Lamar recently said of his mentor.

He means it, too. Turns out, Dr. Dre will be featured on Lamar’s next album, as he revealed to WILD 94.3 personality Nessa. “One thing about Dre is you can’t take the music away from him,” Lamar said. “No matter how much money he has, he’s always gonna be right there in the studio – and that’s before the deal, after the deal. He’s always locked in there. That’s something I know personally.”

Dr. Dre worked as executive producer of Lamar’s 2012 debut, good kid, M.A.A.D. city. He’s also mentored Lamar since 2010, when he first heard Overly Dedicated‘s “Ignorance Is Bliss.” And late last year, the two previewed a monstrous song in a Beats by Dre commercial. Lamar’s reassurance is still nice, though, especially considering Apple’s reported deal to purchase Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion – news that had Dr. Dre claiming himself to be hip-hop’s first billionaire.

So, one thing’s for sure — while the existence of Detox is a practically an urban legend (“I couldn’t give you that word, but I know he’s still a creative genius in there,” Lamar said, of when it’s coming), the follow-up to good kid, M.A.A.D. City does exist — and sounds promising.
