Morrissey Claims Opening Act’s “Horrendous Cold” Forced Him To Cancel Tour

When Morrissey canceled the remainder of his U.S. tour, he initially claimed to have a worsening respiratory infection. On fan site True to You, however, he claims that he fell ill because of his tour’s opening act, experimental rock duo (and former protege) KRISTEENYOUNG.

This new statement claims that Morrissey was treated for an “acute fever” at Massachusetts General Hospital, after catching part of frontwoman Kristeen Young‘s “horrendous cold.” “For the good of all, Kristeen was asked to step down from the immediate upcoming shows, but instead she decided to leave the tour entirely,” the True to You statement says. “Morrissey and the band wish her well and hope she is now in good health.”

To make this story even stranger, Young has completely denied his claims.

In a Facebook post only visible to her friends, then deleted, Young says that she was treated for — and had recovered — from an allergy attack in Miami, according to Radio.com. She also claims that she never stepped down from the tour – instead, she was asked to leave. “I am very sorry that Morrissey is not feeling well. But I will not tolerate these lies….particularly about my health,” she said. “This is really too much and bizarre.”

This spring trek isn’t the first time that Morrissey and KRISTEENYOUNG have attempted to tour together. In 2007, the act was fired after an opening set in New York City, where Young joked that the former Smiths frontman “gives good head, I mean, er, cunnilingus…”

Morrissey will release his 10th album, World Peace Is None of Your Business, in late June or early June via Harvest Records/Capitol.
