Jessie Ware Premieres Soulful, Subtle New Single “Tough Love”: Listen

When Jessie Ware teased the first taste of her much-anticipated sophomore set on Instagram last week, I speculated that the Brit was heading in a slightly more accessible direction. “Tough Love” landed online today (June 16) and, while it skirts around the edges of on-trend synth-pop, the elegant jam stays true to the 29-year-old’s signature sound.

Produced by BenZel (the production of Two Inch Punch and frequent Kesha/Katy Perry collaborator Benny Blanco), “Tough Love” is an unusually subtle and sophisticated pop song that showcases Jessie’s sublime pipes over a minimal soundscape that sounds like an ’80s synth anthem on Valium. Listen to the Devotion diva’s very welcome return after the jump.
