After fun. catapulted to mind-blowing mainstream success with 2012’s Some Nights, the NYC pop-rock trio quietly broke into solo endeavors: a side project here, a pop feature there. On June 18, though, fun. debuted a new song, “Harsh Lights,” in a special episode of The Tonight Show, to a crowd of 5,000 in Orlando. At first impression, the jaunty pop number comes close to feeling like a last-call song. But as frontman Nate Ruess‘s wry lyrics sink in, the song reveals itself to be a rallying cry for failing to meet our own staggering expectations — how handy!

With this performance, one thing is certain – fun. is back.
