Whatcha Say: Lana Del Rey, Lady Gaga And Adam Lambert Got Our Readers Talking

Bradley Stern | June 20, 2014 6:30 pm

TGIF, Idolator readers!

This was a very busy week in pop, including some major album releases: Lana Del Rey gave us all of her Ultraviolence, Sam Smith came to give us all the feels with his In The Lonely Hour and J.Lo threw her LOVE?rs a party with A.K.A. Which albums are you loving so far?

There was also some MAJOR scandal. (But isn’t there always?) Lady Gaga‘s controversy-riddled “Do What U Want” video with R. Kelly and Terry Richardson partially surfaced online, Miley suggested that her loss to Selena Gomez was rigged at the MuchMusic Video Awards, and Lana Del Rey got into a heated exchange with The Guardian over her interview. Drama!

Over ’round ours, we had a bunch of fun premieres, including JoJo‘s Five Minutes To The Stage webisode, Wrabel‘s “Into The Wild,” Brooklynn‘s “Mile High”, Deluka‘s Bonds EP and more. Phew!

Plus, it’s officially the start of summer this weekend, which means we’re obsessing over which song will become the official Song Of Summer ’14 — and we want you to help us decide! There’s still time left to vote in our poll.

As per usual, you guys had plenty to say. Here are some of the week’s best comments below!

:: Meo didn’t feel like the target demographic on Lana Del Rey’s ‘Ultraviolence’: Album Review: “I found the album boring and miserable, it seems to appeal to men and teenagers though.”

:: But Sven provided a helpful tip: “When I listened to the album for the first time I thought the same thing. But when you lay down on your bed and you listen to the lyrics and the melody for the second time, that’s the moment you will change your mind.”

:: Carlos couldn’t help but bring up death too on Lana Del Rey’s “I Wish I Was Dead Already” Saga Continues With ‘The Guardian’ Posting Audio: “I love everything Lana, but if you make almost 3 albums full of songs that mention death a lot like she did, you have to expect somebody will bring that up in an interview at some point and try to get an interesting answer out of it.”

:: And Montemayor had the final word on LDR on Lana Del Rey’s ‘Ultraviolence’ Is Heading Straight To Number One On The Billboard 200: “In six-month cycle filled with idiosyncratic and memorable indie offerings, LDR just put out (by far) the most challenging, and rewarding, mainstream album of the summer (maybe of all year), and given all her ambition and will to do great work (despite detractors), not at all surprised. Long live Lana.”

:: Avery was quite adamant that Gaga knew what she was getting herself into in the scrapped “Do What U Want” video on Lady Gaga’s “Do What U Want” Video: See A Leaked NSFW Snippet (And Why It Was Never Released): “And yet her fans are still defending her and Idolator promoting her. She’s glamourizing rape : in the song, in the performances of the song (SNL, AMA) and in interviews where she supported R Kelly and even tweeted about his new single months after the piece in the Village Voice was published. She can’t ignore the accusations against Terry Richardson because he’s a close friend and was with her when the allegations were made public. She knew. You don’t duet on a song naed “Do what you ant with my body” with somebody accused of peeing on a 13 y/o girl. SHE KNEW. Everybody knew but she would be the only one to not know ?”

:: And Leo felt a bit defeated: “I love Gaga and I loved ARTPOP as an album. But it is hard to deny that this era has been a complete mess.”

:: barbls was overcome by King Adam’s live set with Queen on Queen And Adam Lambert Conquer The iHeartRadio Theater In Los Angeles: 10 Pics: “Adam killed me with ‘Love Kills’ I am so overwhelmed by the was Adam sang his version of the song! The beauty of his voice and the passion he evoked tore into my heart and soul and now has such a hold me. Can’t let it go! The Whole concert was Exciting! Can’t wait to be there live at Madison Garden!!”

:: As was Lily, who provided a fashion tip: “Love Kills was stunning and this was just a tease of what is yet to come. Adam, be sure to bring your tight black leather trousers!”

:: Peter Waterman’s Y-Fronts got fed up with Kylie’s Kiss Me Once after hearing another demo track on Kylie Minogue’s “Waiting 4 The Sun” Surfaces Online: Listen To The Unused ‘Kiss Me Once’ Demo: “Agree with you entirely on the tracklisting. It’s like they started to make a good album (‘Into The Blue’ and ‘Fine’) then decided to throw all the good stuff in the bin to suit some insane music executive’s idea of ‘how to market Kylie’. “She’s sexy, isn’t she? Let’s put a lot of songs about sex on there”… and then promptly forgot to leave much trace of either what made Kylie a global icon in the first place – or any decent tunes – on the thing. Still, it could have been worse. Body Language II. Shudder…”

:: Ahlexoxo agreed with Miss Miley about the MMVAs voting on Miley Cyrus Accuses MuchMusic Video Awards Of Vote Rigging After Losing To Selena Gomez: “Definitely rigged. Whether you like Miley or not you can’t deny that. Twitter and instagram were blowing up with votes for her, like she said Selenas votes didn’t rise until last minute. There’s simply no way it wasn’t rigged.”

:: And finally, drew sensed a surprise on Madonna’s New Album “Sounds Good” According To William Orbit: “I smell a Beyonce. Also, can Madonna please give us a proper Confessions on a Dancefloor sequel?”
