Did You Hear?

:: As if the upcoming Aaliyah biopic hasn’t been controversial enough (a war is still raging on Twitter about the casting of Disney star Zendaya), new details reveal that the movie will examine the late R&B star’s annulled marriage to R. Kelly. They tied the knot when she was 15 years old. Gross. [MTV]

:: Prince has a new solo album on the way, which is exciting enough but it seems he is really moving with the times by including a song called “This Could Be Us” based on the popular internet meme #ThisCouldBeUsButUPlayin. Can’t wait. [Stereogum]

:: Nobody can decide if the ratings for new talent show Rising Star are really bad or just a little disappointing. The show’s first episode came second to America’s Got Talent with 5.1 million viewers, which sounds grim but apparently is something of a win for ABC based on certain metrics. Perhaps we should give it a couple of weeks before writing it off? [Deadline]

:: Expect Lana Del Rey‘s next album to be even more depressing. The death-obsessed diva has now parted ways with long-term boyfriend Barrie-James O’Neill, saying: “there are some things with which he has to deal.” [Just Jared]
